DESIRES OF OUR HEARTS From: TREFLYN JONES 17 Nov 2010 (07:16)
GOD CREATES THE DESIRES OF OUR HEARTS TO PLEASE HIM, TO BE OBEDIENT TO HIS CALL, WE HAVE TO MAKE THAT COMMITMENT TO FOLLOW THE DESIRES OF OUR HEART.

MOST PEOPLE WOULD THINK THAT THE DESIRES OF OUR HEART RELATES TO WHAT WE WANT, SO GOD HAS TO GIVE US WHAT WE WANT, BUT IT\'S NOT LIKE THAT. GOD PUTS WHAT HE WANTS US TO ACCOMPLISH FOR HIM INTO OUR HEARTS, SO WE HAVE A DESIRE TO DO WHAT HE WANTS US TO DO, THAT IS THE BEST FEELING EVER, CONTINUALLY EXCITED, EXECTANT, TOTAL PEACE, REASSURED THAT HE IS GOING AHEAD OF US BLESSING EVERY MOVE WE MAKE FOR HIM. STEERING AND CORRECTING US AS WE PROCEED. WOW! LET\'S ALL GET EXCITED.

desires of our heart  From: maryann 18 Nov 2010 (16:57)
yes! youre so right in what you write.....\"not my will, but HIS be done on earth as it is in heaven\" - i guess the most difficult thing to do in such a situation is to be consistant....trusting that HE will provide what is needed, whether it be people, money or whatever....cause you can be sure that whatever area HE wants to use you in, you will get BIG trials....e.g. money....but i guess its the time of testing.....to see if we hold on.......keep on trusting....and while we \"grow\" we build character.......but sometimes it just seems so impossible....and everything seems to be so unfair...........but HE knows what HE s doing and we have to hold on! \"I d rather have Jesus than silver and gold............\"

totally relevant  From: June Ritchie 07 May 2011 (09:13)
This is relevant Maryann to so much of a disciple\'s life the testings are put in as God examines our hearts. Will we be obedient? Will we choose to do it the way He wants it done? Many times the desire or vision is given and yet it looks so impossible, so fraught with barriers and hindrances. The temptation can come to say \'lets just put it aside for now. But we are expected to fight on, God is watching our every reaction. Will we obey? Money shortages often seem clear, but then faith has to come into play. Time and pressing duties can seek to just throw us off it and put despairing hands into the air. But no once the call and the vision arrives and burns in our hearts there\'s nothing else to do but go on going forward. Many great books on my shelf are of folks who served and were faithful to the desire/vision in spite of all thrown against them. Paul on the Damascus road is a fitting example. He had a tough start and a tough fight to complete his call but he never wavered. He pressed on in to the end. That old burning feeling that he felt when Christ appeared never left Him he was sold out for God to get it all done. And achieved so much wish we could too!

God does reward us.  From: derek leslie 07 May 2011 (16:53)
(Yes the reference to desires of our hearts comes from psalm 37.
( I AM NOT A CLAIM IT NAME IT MAN ) prosperity gospel etc.
But I am going to write something now, which is quite out of the ordinary for me to say.
In this case the psalm does mean what it says it is the desires of our hearts that he gives to us . Even though I don\'t believe in a gospel by works. If we read carefully the psalm it is telling us that if we do the Lords will and delight in him, he will give us what we desire in our hearts.
We cant name it claim it, but we can ask for things we need. Not wants. And because we are pleasing him, he gives us those things we ask for. That what the psalm says, not me.
This will unfortunately upset some as they want to be seen as so humble and faithfully, that they can endure all hardships
To show that we are so spiritual. It looks better that way. To say its nothing to do with our desires but Gods. Sounds so good.
And while it is true that to suffer and endure and still keep faith and seek the desires of God not ours.
We must not take the scripture out of context. Psalm 37. He does reward us if we do his will and obey his words.that\'s what it plainly says. We must not take it out of context to show our spirituality.
Remember Jesus said you do not have because you do not ask. He does give us the desires of our Hearts.

This will open up a Pandora box. Because of the two camps. The name it, claim it camp. Will say we can have all things simply by claiming them. Example some walk round houses claiming them for themselves in Jesus name, if they need a house.

The, we must be poor and endure hardship camp. Will say its gods will for us to have these hardships to test us. ( Look how spiritual we are.)
It is true that we must endure and keep faith to the end choose what happens. But don\'t deny Gods gifts to us.
He does not want us to suffer because he loves us.
But to accept that we can get rewarded by God. Some will say this is by works and not by faith. We cant earn anything.
You cannot earn your salvation true. But if you please him, and obey him making him the center of your life.
He does, I believe reward you.
You will have to make up your own mind up depending which camp you are from.
For me I just accept it has it says in the psalm. We are rewarded the desires of our hearts
I have found this to be true, has when I was so much on fire for God. Thinking nothing except about him and evangelizing to everything that moved. Obeying him, loving him, and others. Etc. And so on and on. Most of my prayers were answered and quickly.
He rewards those who love him. And cuts off those who don\'t, strong but true.

The Me I want to be  From: Colin Gunnell 21 Aug 2011 (20:44)
I\'ve recently been reading a book by Jon Ortberg that capture the essence of what you\'re saying Treflyn. In the book \'the Me I want to be\', he talks about how our desires reveal the me we should be - but like anything, we can misuse the desires to satisfy our own broken hearts. Often also, the Church has prompted many to see their desires as totally alien to God, instead of realising that as His created people there is a side of our desires that are good. I like the phrase that he uses in his book, where he describes finding our desires and releasing them into God\'s hands as finding the \'youier\' we\'re supposed to be.
I\'d certainly recommend this book. But what you share is so valuable, because when we lose our desires; when we shut them out; when we try to stifle them - the man or woman that we\'re supposed to be gets lost, and we struggle around blindly because we\'ve lost ourselves - which is just what the enemy wants to happen. We lose heart - and the battle is lost. God\'s intention for our desires always carries a blessing when we let Him lead our hearts.
God bless you Treflyn in the pursuit of your heart, and also all those who read this.

WHAT IS GODS DESIRES  From: David Dawson 23 Aug 2011 (01:40)
LOOKING AT ANOTHER PERSPECIVE.
1TIM 2;3 THIS IS GOOD AND ACCEPTABLE IN THE SIGHT OF GOD OUR SAVIOUR;
1TIM 2;4 WHO DESIRES ALL MEN TO BE SAVED AND TO COME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH.

MANY TIMES I HAVE BEEN VERY SELFISH [UNKNOWINGLY] IN MY DESIRES; AND FATHER HAS GIVEN TO ME SO MANY WHICH HE DESIRES ME TO HAVE AND NOT WHAT MY DESIRES ARE.
MANY OF MY REQUESTS ARE BASED ON MY [\'MY/I\' BEING THE OPERATIVE WORD] NEEDS AND WANTS..IT IS THROUGH MATURITY WHEN YOU REALISE COMPARED TO THE 75% OF CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN PAN AFRICAN/ASIAN COUNTRY\'S WHO STRUGGLE TO GET CLEAN WATER..FOOD, EDUCATION, MEDICAL AID..ETC.. HOW MIGHTILY BLESSED WE ARE LIVING IN THE UK AND EURO ZONES.
PLEASE DONT MISUNDERSTAND EACH AND EVERYONE OF US HAS DESIRES FINANCIAL,SPIRITUAL,HEALINGS. AND WE CAN ASK FOR ANYTHING IN HIS NAME.

BUT MORE THAN ANYTHING MY DESIRE IS TO DRAW CLOSER TO GOD MY FATHER..
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ASKING THE FATHER FOR DESIRES..

THE IMPORTANT THING IS AM I FULFILLING GODS DESIRES.
HIS LAST COMMAND FOR US IS TO GO AND PREACH THE GOSPEL.
MAT 28:18 AND JESUS CAME AND SPAKE UNTO THEM, SAYING, ALL POWER IS GIVEN TO ME IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH
MAT 28:19 GO YE THEREFORE AND TEACH ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY GHOST;
MAT 28:20 TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I HAVE COMMANDED YOU: AND,LO,
I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS EVEN UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD.

THE SALVATION OF MANKIND IS GODS GREATEST DESIRE. THE AWESOME REVELATION IS THE GOD OF THIS UNIVERSE DESIRES TO HAVE THAT PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP NOT JUST WITH YOU AND I BUT ALL. ALL SINNERS WHETHER THE MUSLIM THE BEGGAR THE THIEF OR THE LOLLYPOP MAN.
HE HAS PROVIDED A WAY FOR YOU AND I TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
JOHN 7;38 HE THAT BELIEVETH ON ME AS THE SCRIPTURES HATH SAID OUT OF HIS BELLY SHALL FLOW RIVERS OF LIVING WATER..
WITH GODS GRACE NOW I DESIRE TO PLEASE MY LORD\'S DESIRE TO SERVE HIM AS A GOOD SERVING SON AND ALLOW THE LIVING WATER FLOW THROUGH MY BELLY TO SHARE HIS HOLY AND LIVING WORD TO OTHERS AND TO REJOICE WITH HIM AND HIS ANGELS TO SEE SOULS SAVED FOR HIS HONOUR AND GLORY

THE DESIRE OF OUR HEART  From: TREFLYN JONES 23 Aug 2011 (08:01)
When we want what GOD wants is the perfected DESIRE OF OUR HEART.

It\'s not about what we want, I could write an endless list of what I want and then expect that GOD would give them to me. I would then say that \"GOD has given me the DESIRE OF MY HEART\". Thant would be foolishness.

When I feel the need, the unstoppable need, the feeling that if I don\'t do this I will not be satisfied, a burning need and desire to go and do something, it could be a small insignificant thing in my eyes, the drive to do that which GOD has put in my heart. What joy! I get really excited about having to do something, I become obsessed by it, I just want to do it, I have to do it. That is GOD giving us the desire of our heart, and nothing is better.

No one should get carried away in thinking that our righteous works, put there by our own thoughts and desires to seek GOD\'s favour is what GOD wants us to do.

We are not all capable of doing the same things, we have different skills, mobility, understanding, resources, and GOD will use us according to what we can do for GOD. Let\'s make ourselves available for service.

We need to be excited about what GOD has in store for us. We need to report for duty in the righteousness of JESUS.

I just love being \"ON DUTY FOR GOD\".

June likes this!  From: June Ritchie 24 Aug 2011 (08:23)
This is good treflyn and yes its how I see it too! im so aware that God trained me from the very beginning on how to write and prepared me in the scriptures for it over the years of salvation. So much has happened and many hindrances overcome but the work of these booklets is still increasing and widening and I stand amazed at the Lord\'s encouragement. when youre in God\'s perfect will it surpasses all other pleasures. As the years have passed the work has increased my inner urge is even greater and much of my waking thought concentrates on doing this the will of God. Who needs hobbies and pastimes?
Only the bored and the empty living. Our time has to be spent always in the midst of God\'s holy will and our happiness in that placeplainly seen.
the book ministry is my life because jesus and His work is my life. So my will is joined to His and the thought excites me for the Spirit will do what needs to be done to make me fruitful. that should be all of call themselves disciples.
So where is today\'s church I wonder?

  From: Colin Gunnell 26 Aug 2011 (13:19)
It\'s great to read the different responses to this forum - I particularly like your comments Derek. I\'m so aware of how God can give us desires that He in turn uses to release His Kingdom into the lives of others.
About 20 years ago, in Swindon, there was an aim to bring an evangelist to the town to share the Gospel. As part of that, 10 churches committed themselves to bring at least 10 unsaved people each to a meal where this evangelist would share His story and the Gospel with those gathered. The event fell through - not because people wouldn\'t come, but because the people were so preoccupied with their Church fellowship that they didn\'t know people outside of the Church. They had become religious and busy, but were not meeting the unsaved in their day-to-day life.
I have enjoy sports in the past and God has used those for his purposes. I can remember sitting in the middle of rapids in a Kayak telling someone of God\'s love; I can remember leading several people to Christ whilst rock climbing; and I know of others who have followed their desires which they believed were given to them so that they might share the Gospel with the unsaved. Motor bike ministry - what a testimony of grace has been shown by those who happily put on leathers and proclaim the Gospel. And the list goes on.......
Who needs hobbies? The Lord does - because by these He enables His people to interact and understand those in society, and engage in conversation with them - developing friendships and showing that God created all things out of love for His created people. Desires are not wrong - we just choose sometimes to abuse that which He has placed in our hearts. We have to be careful not to judge what we don\'t enjoy as being wrong, when He may have placed that desire into the heart of His child.

to be clear up any misunderstanding about psalm 37  From: derek leslie 28 Aug 2011 (15:17)
I just felt the need to input this so that I don\'t get misunderstood. By what I wrote above in this link.
First and foremost I agree with what people have wrote, that the main desires of our hearts should be what God places in there, so we can please him. By doing his will in our lives.
The main thing that I was pointing out was not to take psalm 37 out of context. It means what it says, he gives us the desires of OUR HEARTS. Because he loves us. And if we do what the psalm says.
If we take it out of context from what it it really says is to spiritualise it. As I explained in my input.
I was merely pointing out that by doing Gods will, walking with him, etc as I explained in my input. That if we have a desire for something we would like ourselves.he will give it to us if we ask.that\'s what the psalm says.
I am not saying that God will give to us everything that we ask for. He will give us only what he wants to give.
But we can ask our father for anything, we cant claim anything, but we can ask.
Jesus said anything you ask of me I will do. Anything that you pray for will be yours if you do not doubt in your heart.
You do not have because you do not ask.
I sound like a name if claim it man don\'t I, I am not, but there is truth in these scriptures.
Just to give an example. I am trying to learn the guitar, and one of the most difficult things is to play and sing at the same time.
Easy for some, but if you do some net searching you will find out most can\'t. It can take years. For some, never.
I tried it, and could not do it, it was impossible, I told My wife, I will never ever be able to do it.
Then I prayed, and asked the lord for help. Within about 20 min\'s I was able to do it. Praise the Lord.
But remember the old saying be careful what you ask for.
